About this hotel

Vintage Design Hotel Sax is situated in four-storey boutique building dated from the 14th century, served as an orphanage in 16th century, a hospital for the poor in 18th century, an apartment block in 19 and 20th century and in 1994 was converted into a hotel. The interior of the hotel has extraordinary inventive design of the 50s/ liberal pop-culture of the 60s and futuristic experiments of the 70s created by architects Nadi Sádovská and Jaromír Pitzinger.

The interior collection goes beyond general "50s/60s/70s" styling to include original pieces by internationally recognised designers, among them Verner Panton, Marco Zanuso associate Cesare "Joe" Colani, Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames — furniture that is more commonly seen in design museums than in a working hotel. Combined with the building's long institutional history before its 1994 conversion, the result is a stay that functions almost as a small, walkable exhibit of mid-century design as much as accommodation.

Location

Vintage Design Hotel Sax has superb location in the heart of Lesser Town, up the hill from Malostranske namesti Square with a view on the panorama of the Lesser Town with sights of the Strahov Monastery, Prague Castle and the Church of St. Nicolas. Tram station Malostranské náměstí is very close to this Hotel in Prague .

Jánský vršek, the steep lane the hotel sits on, is one of the quieter residential streets of Malá Strana, tucked into the hillside below Prague Castle rather than on one of the district's main tourist thoroughfares. The climb up from Malostranské náměstí means fewer passing crowds than streets closer to Charles Bridge, while still leaving the castle approach, the Church of St Nicholas, and the tram stop at Malostranské náměstí within a few minutes on foot.

Located right at the foothill of Prague Castle and in a very peaceful and a quiet street. The street is surrounded by embassies so it’s safe even late at night. However, the rooms are very compact and if you were to open 2 bags on the floor, there would be no space to navigate around the room. The staff is very polite, courteous and tries best to accommodate the requests. The breakfast spread was good with variety of dishes. The croissants, bread and cereals were wonderful. The restaurant staff was not well-versed with English and you may have to engage with Google Translate. Overall a nice place to stay when in Prague.

Great hotel in a perfect location—just steps from the castle and within walking distance of all major attractions. The daily fresh breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Highly recommended! My and my wife, really enjoy stay here.

They show Pictures with a view of the castle for the room booked but there is nothing like that. They literally do a phishing scam via the booking platform by sending a confirm to avoid cancellation. Parking you have to be lucky and book for 40euro per day. Good thing is the breakfast. The hotel needs to be investigated by the Cyber crime police as they have network within the building to make money out of the guests.

Hotel Sax was a delight to stay at. Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and a Tram station are all conveniently located. Breakfast was served fresh daily from 8-1030 with lots plenty of options. Coffee and espresso machine were complimentary with breakfast. Staff was friendly and super helpful. All staff members spoke several languages including English. Highly recommend Vintage Hotel Sax

Lo and behold, I think I’ve discovered one of the finest hotels in Prague! The staff members at reception and the breakfast are exceptionally attentive and kind, which made the atmosphere anything but stuffy. As a Catz alum (our college was designed by Jacobsen), I was blown away by the unique, sometimes eclectic design of the hotel itself. And each room (I stayed in three at different points of my trip!) was extremely distinct. From the delicious, very large breakfast to the free pastries, this hotel takes good care to sate your appetite. Oh, and the location, perhaps that was the best of all! Such a quiet neighborhood, filled with beautiful street after beautiful street.
