The hotel traces its origins to 1887, when Josef Beránek took over a butcher's shop on Tylovo náměstí; his family later opened the Slovanský hotel-Beránek on the site in 1920. The property was confiscated from the family under the communist regime after the Second World War, and it was not until 2004 that it was bought back and reopened as a hotel. This history gives the Beránek a lineage that predates most of Prague's post-1989 hotel developments, and the building today reflects that longer institutional history rather than a purpose-built modern construction.

Location

Hotel Beránek stands at Bělehradská 110 in Vinohrady, Prague 2, about 100 metres from the I.P. Pavlova metro station on line C and close to the Náměstí Míru tram and metro stop. This puts the hotel within a few stops, or a walk of roughly fifteen to twenty minutes, of Wenceslas Square and the New Town. Vinohrady itself is a largely residential, tree-lined district known for its Art Nouveau apartment blocks and parks, giving the area a calmer, more local character than the immediate centre while still keeping the historic sights of Prague 1 within easy reach via the metro.
